ACCOUNTABLE TO: Executive Head: Legal & Compliance
POSITION TYPE: Permanent

JOB DESCRIPTION:
This position entails maintaining and enhancing the legal strategy to ensure the company is
provided with sound and professional legal guidance.
DUTIES / KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
o Key skills include:
o Strong background in commercial and insurance law;
o Analytical and attentive to detail
o Proven track record in providing effective legal counsel and developing contracts
that mitigate legal risks
o Serving as a legal resource and point of reference on legal and insurance matters, as well as rendering formal and informal legal opinions;
o Maintaining legal contracts data base;
o Draft, negotiate and review agreements;
o Managing litigious matter on behalf of the company;
o Instruct external legal counsel on various matters;
o Sound understanding of relevant legislation and its impact on business strategy
o Ability to identify and mitigate legal risks
o Familiar with complaint handling process and corresponding with respective
regulatory bodies
o Interpersonally agile and strong at building relationships at all levels
o Self-starter with the ability to work well independently
o Ability to draft legal reports
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION
o Grade 12 / Matric
o Admitted Attorney
o Post Graduate qualification would be advantageous
o 5 years post qualification experience
EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
o Financial services background incl. direct exposure to financial legislation
o Minimum of 5 years' experience within Financial Services or Insurance sector
o Experience or knowledge in Compliance with a focus on TCF, POPI, CPA, FAIS, FICA and
Insurance legislation
